PHOTOS: Captured ship had huge number of arms for Hizballah

Israel commandos on Tuesday night stormed and commandeered a German-owned cargo ship off the coast of Cyprus after learning that it was carrying weapons to the Hizballah terrorist militia in Lebanon.

It is unknown if the Israelis were prepared for the sheer number of weapons aboard the ship, which military officials said ended up being hundreds of tons worth of mortar shells, anti-tank missiles, Katyusha missiles and other heavy weaponry.

Hizballah later denied any connection to the ship and accused Israel of piracy for taking over the vessel in international waters. The shipping company claimed it had no idea the huge arms cache was hidden among the civilian cargo it was carrying.

Americans Protest the Obama-Pelosi-Carhart Abortion Funding Scheme

by Staff
November 4, 2009

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Americans gathered outside the White House on Saturday and laid down in the street to form the number 71, representing the percentage of Americans who oppose taxpayer funded abortions in our nation's health care plan.

The group was part of the IAM71.org coalition, which has a multi-faceted campaign against tax-funding of abortions that includes a ground-breaking virtual protest that can be found at www.IAM71.org. The protest was led by coalition member Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition.

The protest came on the heels Speaker Nancy Pelosi's unveiling of the House version of the health care "reform" bill that specifically provides for the tax funding of abortions. Present at the Pelosi invitation-only rally was late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, whose failing abortion business in Bellevue, Nebraska, would stand to handsomely profit from the Pelosi scheme to force taxpayers to foot the bill for abortions. This was particularly disturbing since Carhart is currently under criminal investigation in Nebraska for illegal abortion practices after his former employees blew the whistle on him in August.

"The Obama-Pelosi-Carhart scheme would lead to more abortions and would cost the taxpayers millions of dollars that we don't have. It is a morally bankrupt plan that could contribute to fiscally bankrupting our nation," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who helped found the "I AM 71" Coalition.

Speaking to the American people, Newman said, "Even if you have already done so, we urge Americans of conscience to contact your Representatives and Senators today to voice your opposition to tax funded abortions in our health care system. Then go to IAM71.org and upload your photo to add your voice to the growing number of Americans speaking out against this injustice."

Operation Rescue is one of the leading pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation and has become a strong voice for the pro-life movement in America. Operation Rescue is now headquartered in a former abortion clinic that it bought and closed in 2006. From there, Operation Rescue launches its innovative new strategies across the nation, exposing and closing abortion clinics through peaceful, legal means. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to stop abortion and ultimately restore legal personhood to the pre- born in obedience to biblical mandates.

US generals and soldiers flood Israel

A large number of American generals and at least 1,500 US soldiers arrived in Israel this week for one of the largest joint land exercises ever held between the two nations.

Dubbed "Juniper Cobra," the exercise, which is held every year, but never before on such a large scale, is scheduled to last three weeks.

One of the visiting US generals told Israel media that the exercise is in response to "specific threats," which every took to mean primarily the Iranian nuclear threat. There was much speculation that the exercise signaled the US had nearly given up on diplomatic efforts to curb Iran's nuclear program, and was gearing up for the aftermath of an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Obama appoints anti-Israel senator to head intel team

Israelis were given yet another reason to view US President Barack Obama with suspicion last week when he appointed former senator Chuck Hagel as the new head of his Intelligence Advisory Board.

Hagel has long rubbed Israel and its supporters the wrong way, and last month he reiterated his antagonistic positions when addressing the liberal Jewish lobby group J-Street. Hagel told his audience that meeting Arab demands for a Palestinian state on ancient Jewish lands is "is central, not peripheral, to U.S. vital security interests in combating terrorism."

Israel has for years been trying to impress upon Washington to not play into the terrorists hands by allowing them to define Israel's existence as justification for their actions.

Hagel also said that while the US may have a special relationship with Israel, the Middle East's only true democracy, it "must not come at the expense of our Arab relationships."

Hagel's remarks came as no surprise to those who followed his actions as a senator in recent years.

Hagel strongly criticized former President George W. Bush during his first term for refusing to meet with Yasser Arafat, while at the same time questioning the loyalty of American Jews who pushed for the US to back Israel against its enemies.

Later, Hagel refused to join an effort to convince the European Union to declare Hizballah a terrorist organization, and was one of only four senators to not sign a declaration backing Israel at the outset of the second Palestinian intifada, better known as the "Oslo War."

Israel observers are concerned that the same man will now play such a central role in shaping intelligence information before it reaches Obama, and thereby exercise tremendous influence over the president's foreign policy decisions.

Ten more Christians from China's Fushan Church arrested

by Staff
October 29, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - Church members of the Fushan Church in Linfen City, China continue to face detention and intimidation from Public Security Bureau officials.

On October 10, officials offered to release ten church leaders who were arrested in late September following an attack on their church site, on the condition that one of the female leaders be held until further notice. The leaders refused to leave behind Pastor Yang Rongli, stating, "We are one team in the one body of Christ! We won't leave her behind alone. We will not leave prison without her."

The officials then arrested Pastor Yang's youngest sister, Yang Linli, and ransacked another pastor's home. On October 11, ten more church members were arrested. Officials blamed Pastor Yang for the raids and arrests, and threatened the leaders with further violence if they did not comply with their orders.

Yang Linli was finally released on October 16 and ordered to not petition on behalf of her sister or the other detained Christians and cease further "illegal activities." Pastor Yang and another church leader, Hua Mei, were then formally accused of "illegal building and disturbing the social order by organizing masses."

The next day, five other church leaders were sentenced to criminal detention. Three have since been released on parole. At last report, nine Christians remain in detention and the whereabouts of the ten Christians detained on October 11 remain unknown.
