Zalach Buchari had been wanted for seven years for his involvement in the terror organization

Buchari, born in 1973 was an active Islamic Jihad operative responsible for planning a suicide bombing in the Tel Aviv central bus station in January 2002. In this terror attack 28 civilians were wounded.

Israeli justice minister wants return of biblical law

Israeli Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman on Tuesday said he hopes to oversee the first stages of a return of biblical or Torah law in Israel.

Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem on Jewish monetary laws, Neeman that "Israel should regain the heritage of our Fathers, the primary and ultimate words of the Torah, which contain a complete solution to all the questions we deal with."

Neeman added that in a series of steps or stages, the biblical laws given by God through Moses could be reestablished as the law of the land in Israel.

Neeman came under heavy fire from left-wing opposition parties, which accused him of being akin to the Taliban and trying to trade civil law that protects all citizens with a religious law that will favor only those who adhere to that particular religion.

Neeman's office later clarified that he was not speaking of replacing the current civil law, but only of enhancing it by introducing more biblical morals and improving the image of biblical law among average Israelis.

'Iran can build nuclear bomb today'

The international community's efforts to head off Iran before it could build a nuclear weapon have failed, said Gen. Yossi Baidatz, head of the research division of Israel's Military Intelligence.

In a briefing to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday, Baidatz said that Iran now has all the technical capability to build a nuclear warhead, and has enriched over 1,800 kilograms of uranium, enough for at least one bomb.

Baidatz suggested that he believes the only reason Iran hasn't built a bomb yet is because it is focusing on upgrading its missile delivery systems. The Islamic Republic recently tested a new locally-produced ballistic missile that can reach all of Israel and much of Europe.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the committee and said that over the past year, "two things have happened: Iran has advanced its military nuclear program, and the international community has lost its legitimacy."

EU waters down wording, but still wants Jerusalem divided

Israeli officials were relieved on Tuesday when the European Union passed a resolution merely calling for Israel and the Palestinians to negotiate the division of Jerusalem, rather that recognizing eastern Jerusalem as the capital of "Palestine" even before negotiations have been concluded.

The original wording of the resolution, authored by Sweden, had caused much consternation in Israel over its ground-breaking acceptance of Palestinian and Arab demands without acknowledgement of Israel's positions.

The resolution was also reworded to not refer to the Palestinian Authority as "Palestine."

Under the surface, of course, the new wording is no different than the original, as it predetermines the outcome of Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations by insisting they conclude with the division of Jerusalem, which most Israelis do not accept.

Palestinian leaders praised the resolution as the first step toward the establishment of an Arab Muslim state on the biblical lands of Judea and Samaria with its capital in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat blasted the resolution, and reminded Europe that it had recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Berlin, an event that should have reminded all involved that "no divided city in the history of the world has functioned properly."

Obama again delays US embassy move to Jerusalem

US President Barack Obama on Thursday again invoked a six-month delay on the move of the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The US Congress in 1995 passed a law recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and demanding that the embassy, which is currently in Tel Aviv, be relocated there. But the law also allowed the president the ability to delay the move for a period of six months if national security concerns warranted.

Former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush both renewed the delay every six months for the duration of their presidencies. Obama first ordered the delay in June.

The White House has failed to approve the move out of fears that it would upset the Palestinians and the Arab world, which claim the eastern side of Jerusalem for themselves, and reject the legitimacy of Jewish sovereignty there

Time for Senator Reid to Decide Who He is: A Pro-Life Senator, or Someone Willing to Play Politics with Human Life

by Staff
December 7, 2009

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Yesterday CNS News published a constituent letter signed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). In the letter, intended for citizens who voice objections to the inclusion of abortion in the Senate version of health care reform, Reid reaffirms his stated opposition to abortion: "I noted your specific comments related to health care reform and abortion. I oppose abortion except in the cases of rape, incest, and when the life of the mother is at risk." Yet Reid does not assure readers he would support an authentic exclusion of government-funded abortion from health care reform, in the manner of the Stupak amendment that recently passed in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In response, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

"Senator Reid is a man divided. He needs to decide who he is. Is Reid a pro-life Senator, true to his Nevada roots, who will work to protect innocent human life at every turn? Or is he a hardened Washington politico, an inside the Beltway horse- trader willing to make personal compromises for short-term political gain?

"Every day, public servants decide where they are willing to draw a line in the sand, what principles they are willing defend, no matter the cost. Does Senator Reid really believe what he said in that letter? If he truly believes all human life deserves protection, there is simply no room for compromise in health care reform.

"Senator Reid should oppose government-funded abortion in health care reform by supporting the pro- life Stupak language. His constituents deserve it, and America deserves it."

As part of its Votes Have Consequences project, the Susan B. Anthony List has funded $130,000 in television (video), radio ads and educational phone calls across Nevada calling on Senator Reid to defend Life in health care reform. The Susan B. Anthony list plans to renew its ad buys in mid- December.

The Susan B. Anthony List also delivered a letter to Reid signed by 15 pro- life leaders earlier this year, urging the senator to cease calling himself "pro-life" as long has he supports the inclusion of abortion in health care reform.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 167,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Eritrea arrests 30 evangelical Christian women

The Eritrean government arrested 30 elderly, Christian women this past weekend, a Christian persecution watchdog reported Monday.

On Saturday, security forces rounded up a group of mostly elderly women praying together at a house and took them to a police station in Asmara, the capital city, according to International Christian Concern.

The women are mostly members of the Faith Mission Church, an evangelical church with a Methodist background. The church has an over 50-year history in Eritrea but became a target of government crackdown after a law requiring churches to register with officials was adopted in 2002.

It is impossible for the Faith Mission Church to register because the government only allows three Christian denominations to legally exist - the Eritrean Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran Evangelical Church of Eritrea.

“We condemn the arrest of the 30 women by Eritrean officials,” said ICC’s regional manager for Africa and South Asia, Jonathan Racho, in a statement. “We urge officials of Eritrea to release the detainees and all the imprisoned Christians in the country. We call upon Eritrea to stop violating the freedom of religion of its people.”

In recent years, the Eritrean government has cracked down even on registered churches. The head of the Eritrean Orthodox Church has been under house arrest for years and there have been reports of raids on Christian functions, such as weddings.

Reports have also indicated that the torturing of Christians in prison is common. Christians are locked in outdoor metal shipping containers and have to endure unbearable heat, disease and mental distress. The containers are said to only be about 20 feet long and many of them contain 15 to 20 people.

Earlier this year, Compass News Direct reported that there have been several known cases of Christians dying at an Eritrean military camp.

Among the latest deaths is that of Yemane Kahasay Andom, 43, who died on July 23 at Mitire Military Confinement Center in northeastern Eritrea. He reportedly was tortured and suffered from a severe case of malaria that eventually led to his death.

“He was allegedly further weakened by continuous physical torture and solitary confinement in an underground cell the two weeks prior to his death for his refusal to sign a recantation form,” said Open Doors, whose sources informed the ministry of Andom’s death. “It is not clear what the contents of the recantation form were, but most Christians interpret the signing of such a form as the denouncement of their faith in Christ.”

Also in the month of July, Release International ran a story about an Eritrean Christian who was imprisoned for five months.

“My hair and nails were long. My body colour was yellow,” said former prisoner Hzkias about his condition after he was released from his underground cell, according to the July edition of Release magazine. Hzkias, whose real name is not used for security reasons, also said he “looked like another creature”.

Another former prisoner, identified as Essay by the magazine, was detained at a prison in Asmara for 11 months. Life in the prison, he explained, was “simply like living in an open toilet”.

There are more than 2,800 Christians who are imprisoned because of their Christian faith in Eritrea, according to Open Doors. Eritrea is located in Northeast Africa.
