House church leader targeted by authorities in Wenzhou, China

by Staff
December 17, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - The leader of a house church in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, China was released on November 30 after authorities arbitrarily detained him without warrant on November 23.

Officials and local villagers targeted Shao Wangui after he and his brother, owners of the Xinba Shoes Factory, refused to pay a fee to support the building of a Buddhist temple in their village. Wangui also asked the members of his house church to refuse to support the construction project.

When the village secretary found out about Wangui's actions, he began initiating a campaign of mistreatment against the known believers in the community. In late November, local "vandals" destroyed the brothers' factory as punishment for their refusal to provide funds.

"If there will be a war, I am sure we will win"

Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi described his pride in the soldiers of the IDF in an interview with Israel Army Radio

"I think we understand our responsibility in the environment that we live in. The job of the IDF is to be prepared always, and if there will be a war – I am sure we will win." These words were spoken by the Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, in an interview Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 16) with Israel Army Radio during the broadcast of the Sherutrom IDF Soldiers Appreciation Day.

The Chief of the General Staff spoke about the activities of the IDF during Operation Cast Lead and emphasized that he is not aware of a single incident of a soldier taking arms and deliberately harming innocent civilians. "We know how other militaries fight, and knowing this, the mistakes we made were explicitly less grave than those of any other place in the world," he said. "I was proud to command the soldiers who fought there in extremely complex situations, there has been no war more righteous than this war, and Hamas placed itself in residential areas with the intent of preventing the IDF from using its power and harming them."

He continued to explain that "because of Operation Cast Lead we received a better security reality. From this mission we gained a strong advantage." That being said, he stressed: "We are not delusional and cannot be sure that this reality will be maintained for a long while."

Regarding the disclosure of insubordination which has come up of late in the IDF, Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi commented that "the soldiers will be taken care of with the full force of the law," and emphasized: "We cannot accept that kind of behavior, in the end it will have to be understood that the military cannot be divided."

The Chief of the General Staff explained that in those incidents of insubordination the soldiers did not take an active role in evacuating residents and that was a result of a fundamental perspective, and he said: "For matters dealing with civilians, we will know to use police officers who are more experienced and more mature, and we will use soldiers for missions of security when we can."

Iran Provokes West with Advanced Missile Test

WASHINGTON -- Iran once again thumbed its nose at the West on Wednesday, testing an upgraded long-range missile that can reach as far as southeastern Europe. It can also hit any target in Israel.

The test comes as the Muslim nation continues its march toward nuclear weapons.

Iran's Stocking Stuffer: A Long Range Missile

Those looking for some encouraging news out of Iran this Christmas season should prepare to be disappointed. The Iranians' latest stocking stuffer for the West is an upgraded version of the long range Sajjil-2 missile.

Iranian military officials boasted that the high-speed, surface-to-surface weapon has radar-evading capability. Its range is 1,200 miles, putting all of Israel and parts of Europe in its cross-hairs.

source: http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2009/December/Iran-Provokes-West-with-Advanced-Missile-Test/

The missile test comes as Western leaders are busy debating climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark.

One of those leaders, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said the test underscores the need for tougher international sanctions against Iran over its nuclear weapons program. But with Iran's allies, Russia and China, continuing to drag their feet, it's unlikely he'll get them.

The new Sajjil-2's debut came just one day after U.S. lawmakers in the House passed legislation that would impose sanctions on foreign companies that supply refined gas to Tehran.

However, the Iranian regime continues to scoff at the possibility of such sanctions and President Barack Obama's repeated attempts at diplomacy.

U.S. Losing Patience

As the mullahs push full speed ahead with their nuclear program, administration officials admit they're losing patience

"I don't think anyone can doubt that our outreach has produced very little in terms of any type of positive response from the Iranians," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.

In recent days, western diplomats have expressed concern that Tehran had been testing a neutron initiator. It's a key element of the nuclear weapons cycle that has no peaceful purpose. So the window for meaningful action against Iran may be closing rapidly.

The U.S. military is currently preparing a missile defense drill that would simulate an Iranian attack.

Meanwhile, leaders in Israel say that all options - including a military strike - remain on the table regarding Iran's nuclear program.

Islamic Jihad Terror Operative Arrested

Zalach Buchari had been wanted for seven years for his involvement in the terror organization

On Monday night (Dec. 7), Zalach Buchari, a wanted Islamic Jihad operative was arrested in Nablus during a joint operation of the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (ISA).

Buchari, born in 1973 was an active Islamic Jihad operative responsible for planning a suicide bombing in the Tel Aviv central bus station in January 2002. In this terror attack 28 civilians were wounded.

In 2003, Buchari recruited another suicide bomber to carry out an attack within Israel which was thwarted by security forces at the last minute. Buchari was also involved in terror activities against IDF soldiers. In 2002 he attempted to carry out a car bombing and to detonate large explosives against IDF soldiers. In addition to that, between 2002 and 2003, Buchari planned to abduct Israeli soldiers and to construct an explosives-manufacturing lab inside Israeli territory.

In 2002, Zalach Buchari went into hiding in Nablus for fear of being arrested.

Israeli justice minister wants return of biblical law

Israeli Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman on Tuesday said he hopes to oversee the first stages of a return of biblical or Torah law in Israel.

Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem on Jewish monetary laws, Neeman that "Israel should regain the heritage of our Fathers, the primary and ultimate words of the Torah, which contain a complete solution to all the questions we deal with."

Neeman added that in a series of steps or stages, the biblical laws given by God through Moses could be reestablished as the law of the land in Israel.

Neeman came under heavy fire from left-wing opposition parties, which accused him of being akin to the Taliban and trying to trade civil law that protects all citizens with a religious law that will favor only those who adhere to that particular religion.

Neeman's office later clarified that he was not speaking of replacing the current civil law, but only of enhancing it by introducing more biblical morals and improving the image of biblical law among average Israelis.

'Iran can build nuclear bomb today'

The international community's efforts to head off Iran before it could build a nuclear weapon have failed, said Gen. Yossi Baidatz, head of the research division of Israel's Military Intelligence.

In a briefing to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday, Baidatz said that Iran now has all the technical capability to build a nuclear warhead, and has enriched over 1,800 kilograms of uranium, enough for at least one bomb.

Baidatz suggested that he believes the only reason Iran hasn't built a bomb yet is because it is focusing on upgrading its missile delivery systems. The Islamic Republic recently tested a new locally-produced ballistic missile that can reach all of Israel and much of Europe.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the committee and said that over the past year, "two things have happened: Iran has advanced its military nuclear program, and the international community has lost its legitimacy."

EU waters down wording, but still wants Jerusalem divided

Israeli officials were relieved on Tuesday when the European Union passed a resolution merely calling for Israel and the Palestinians to negotiate the division of Jerusalem, rather that recognizing eastern Jerusalem as the capital of "Palestine" even before negotiations have been concluded.

The original wording of the resolution, authored by Sweden, had caused much consternation in Israel over its ground-breaking acceptance of Palestinian and Arab demands without acknowledgement of Israel's positions.

The resolution was also reworded to not refer to the Palestinian Authority as "Palestine."

Under the surface, of course, the new wording is no different than the original, as it predetermines the outcome of Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations by insisting they conclude with the division of Jerusalem, which most Israelis do not accept.

Palestinian leaders praised the resolution as the first step toward the establishment of an Arab Muslim state on the biblical lands of Judea and Samaria with its capital in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat blasted the resolution, and reminded Europe that it had recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Berlin, an event that should have reminded all involved that "no divided city in the history of the world has functioned properly."

Obama again delays US embassy move to Jerusalem

US President Barack Obama on Thursday again invoked a six-month delay on the move of the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The US Congress in 1995 passed a law recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and demanding that the embassy, which is currently in Tel Aviv, be relocated there. But the law also allowed the president the ability to delay the move for a period of six months if national security concerns warranted.

Former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush both renewed the delay every six months for the duration of their presidencies. Obama first ordered the delay in June.

The White House has failed to approve the move out of fears that it would upset the Palestinians and the Arab world, which claim the eastern side of Jerusalem for themselves, and reject the legitimacy of Jewish sovereignty there

Time for Senator Reid to Decide Who He is: A Pro-Life Senator, or Someone Willing to Play Politics with Human Life

by Staff
December 7, 2009

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Yesterday CNS News published a constituent letter signed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). In the letter, intended for citizens who voice objections to the inclusion of abortion in the Senate version of health care reform, Reid reaffirms his stated opposition to abortion: "I noted your specific comments related to health care reform and abortion. I oppose abortion except in the cases of rape, incest, and when the life of the mother is at risk." Yet Reid does not assure readers he would support an authentic exclusion of government-funded abortion from health care reform, in the manner of the Stupak amendment that recently passed in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In response, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

"Senator Reid is a man divided. He needs to decide who he is. Is Reid a pro-life Senator, true to his Nevada roots, who will work to protect innocent human life at every turn? Or is he a hardened Washington politico, an inside the Beltway horse- trader willing to make personal compromises for short-term political gain?

"Every day, public servants decide where they are willing to draw a line in the sand, what principles they are willing defend, no matter the cost. Does Senator Reid really believe what he said in that letter? If he truly believes all human life deserves protection, there is simply no room for compromise in health care reform.

"Senator Reid should oppose government-funded abortion in health care reform by supporting the pro- life Stupak language. His constituents deserve it, and America deserves it."

As part of its Votes Have Consequences project, the Susan B. Anthony List has funded $130,000 in television (video), radio ads and educational phone calls across Nevada calling on Senator Reid to defend Life in health care reform. The Susan B. Anthony list plans to renew its ad buys in mid- December.

The Susan B. Anthony List also delivered a letter to Reid signed by 15 pro- life leaders earlier this year, urging the senator to cease calling himself "pro-life" as long has he supports the inclusion of abortion in health care reform.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 167,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Eritrea arrests 30 evangelical Christian women

by Ethan Cole, Christian Post

Font Scale:A A A

The Eritrean government arrested 30 elderly, Christian women this past weekend, a Christian persecution watchdog reported Monday.

On Saturday, security forces rounded up a group of mostly elderly women praying together at a house and took them to a police station in Asmara, the capital city, according to International Christian Concern.

The women are mostly members of the Faith Mission Church, an evangelical church with a Methodist background. The church has an over 50-year history in Eritrea but became a target of government crackdown after a law requiring churches to register with officials was adopted in 2002.

It is impossible for the Faith Mission Church to register because the government only allows three Christian denominations to legally exist - the Eritrean Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran Evangelical Church of Eritrea.

“We condemn the arrest of the 30 women by Eritrean officials,” said ICC’s regional manager for Africa and South Asia, Jonathan Racho, in a statement. “We urge officials of Eritrea to release the detainees and all the imprisoned Christians in the country. We call upon Eritrea to stop violating the freedom of religion of its people.”

In recent years, the Eritrean government has cracked down even on registered churches. The head of the Eritrean Orthodox Church has been under house arrest for years and there have been reports of raids on Christian functions, such as weddings.

Reports have also indicated that the torturing of Christians in prison is common. Christians are locked in outdoor metal shipping containers and have to endure unbearable heat, disease and mental distress. The containers are said to only be about 20 feet long and many of them contain 15 to 20 people.

Earlier this year, Compass News Direct reported that there have been several known cases of Christians dying at an Eritrean military camp.

Among the latest deaths is that of Yemane Kahasay Andom, 43, who died on July 23 at Mitire Military Confinement Center in northeastern Eritrea. He reportedly was tortured and suffered from a severe case of malaria that eventually led to his death.

“He was allegedly further weakened by continuous physical torture and solitary confinement in an underground cell the two weeks prior to his death for his refusal to sign a recantation form,” said Open Doors, whose sources informed the ministry of Andom’s death. “It is not clear what the contents of the recantation form were, but most Christians interpret the signing of such a form as the denouncement of their faith in Christ.”

Also in the month of July, Release International ran a story about an Eritrean Christian who was imprisoned for five months.

“My hair and nails were long. My body colour was yellow,” said former prisoner Hzkias about his condition after he was released from his underground cell, according to the July edition of Release magazine. Hzkias, whose real name is not used for security reasons, also said he “looked like another creature”.

Another former prisoner, identified as Essay by the magazine, was detained at a prison in Asmara for 11 months. Life in the prison, he explained, was “simply like living in an open toilet”.

There are more than 2,800 Christians who are imprisoned because of their Christian faith in Eritrea, according to Open Doors. Eritrea is located in Northeast Africa.

5 Linfen Church Leaders Sentenced to Labor Camps Without Trial

by Staff
December 3, 2009

SHANXI, China, (christiansunite.com) -- On November 30, five more church leaders from Linfen Church, Shanxi, were each sentenced to two years re-education through labor, in an arbitrary administrative sentence by the Public Security Bureau which circumvents the court and prosecution systems. The sentence allegedly took effect November 11th, while they were already detained.

The five Christian leaders included Mr. Li Shuangping, Ms. Yang Hongzhen, Ms. Yang Caizhen (whose husband, Yang Xuan, received three years sentence on Nov. 25), Ms. Gao Qin (a.k.a. Gao Fuqin), and Ms. Zhao Guoai. Among the five, ChinaAid confirmed three members' two-year re-education through labor sentences through their family members--including Yang Caizhen, Yang Hongzhen and Mr. Li Shuangping. The other two members' sentences were confirmed indirectly by Linfen-Fushan church leaders, since their family members were being held under severe government surveillance.

The five church leaders were accused of "gathering people to disturb the public order, " referring to the one-thousand-believer prayer rally held on September 14 for the victims of the midnight attack on Fushan Church. 17 church buildings were destroyed and over 30 believers were seriously wounded during the unprecedented mob attack on September 13.

According to a witness, Ms. Yang Caizhen was seen being beaten severely during an interrogation. One of her front teeth was knocked out during an interrogation, and Ms. Yang is reported to look very fragile.

Government authorities asked the prisoners' family members to sign the Notification-to-Family-Member sentence document, but refused to give them official copies. They claimed the church leaders themselves had received the documents while held in detention (a procedure which violates Chinese law). The family members of Yang Caizhen, Yang Hongzhen and Li Shuangping all signed the notification papers respectively. All ten Linfen church leaders plan to appeal.

"To arbitrarily send five innocent citizens to labor camps directly violates the international human rights covenants and norms the Chinese government has signed and even ratified, " said ChinaAid President Bob Fu. "This case shows the Chinese government is determined to be on the wrong side of history by clenching its power with suppressing the basic freedom of religion and conscience for Chinese citizens. We call upon the international community to hold these rights abusers accountable."

Christian from Muslim background martyred in Somalia

by Staff
December 2, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - The body of a 23-year-old Somali convert from Islam to Christianity, Mumin Abdikarim Yusuf, was discovered on the morning of November 14 in Mogadishu's Yaqshid district.

On October 28, members of al-Shabaab, an Islamic militant group, apprehended Yusuf and searched his home for Christian materials after a 15-year-old Muslim boy accused Yusuf of trying to convert him to Christianity. In an attempt to extract evidence against him and to gain information about other Somali Christians, the militants knocked out all of Yusuf's front teeth and broke several of his fingers.

They then shot him twice in the head and discarded his body on an empty residential street. Since it is unknown whether Yusuf disclosed any information during his torture, the underground Christians who knew him have relocated for their safety. Yusuf's Muslim family members are also in danger as militants have accused them of failing to report his conversion to Christianity. (Source: Compass Direct)

Pray for all those mourning the death of this brother in the Lord. Pray for safety for the relocated believers. Pray that Yusuf's faithful witness will be a testimony to his Muslim family members and that they will turn to Jesus for their salvation.

Europe agrees to recognize Palestinian state

Israel's Ha'aretz daily newspaper reported on Tuesday that a resolution to be discussed and probably approved at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers next week calls for the establishment of Jerusalem as the capital of "Palestine," and grants recognition to a Palestinian state declared unilaterally outside the framework of a peace deal with Israel.

The controversial wording is being pushed by Sweden, though many EU representatives are believed to support it.

Palestinians lauded the report, and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' spokesman also lobbied the UN General Assembly on Monday to likewise recognize a unilateral declaration of independence by the Palestinian Authority.

The official was addressing the General Assembly on the anniversary of the 1947 vote on the UN Partition Plan, which recognized Jewish and Arab states west of the Jordan River. Israel accepted the vote, but the Arabs did not, and instead invaded the nascent Jewish state. Despite that fact, the UN marks the day as a day of mourning, and uses it to blast what it calls Israel's "illegal occupation."

Meanwhile, Israeli officials cried foul over the international community's willingness to accept dangerous unilateral Palestinian declarations just days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to a settlement freeze in order to get peace talks going again.

"After the important steps taken by the government of Israel to enable the resumption of negotiations with the Palestinians, the European Union must now exert pressure on the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table," read a statement released by Israel's Foreign Ministry.

source:http://www.israeltoday.co.il/default.aspx?tabid=178&nid=20073

Netanyahu: We won't freeze settlements again

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday tried to drum up international pressure on the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table by warning that Israel's current settlement freeze is only temporary and won't be repeated.

Government inspectors began handing out stop-work orders at construction sites in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria on Monday in line with Netanyahu's decision last week to comply with international demands that Israel stop building homes for Jews in areas claimed by the Palestinians.

But while addressing an economics conference near Ben Gurion Airport, Netanyahu insisted that the 10-month time limit on the freeze is firm, and that he will never make such a gesture again if the Palestinians do not respond in a positive manner.

"This is a one-time and temporary decision," Netanyahu said. "Just as was written in the security cabinet decision, and just as I have made clear in both public and private meetings, we will go back to building at the end of the suspension."

But as most observers of the Middle East conflict know, once Israel makes a concession, international pressure makes it very hard to go back on it. Israel's current settlement freeze is likely to become a new red line for the Palestinians, and most Palestinian red lines have been happily accepted by the world.

From Monkey to Man? Darwin Being Challenged

By Gailon Totheroh
CBN News Science & Medical ReporterTuesday, November 24, 2009RSSPodcasts

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1859, Charles Darwin's book on his theory of evolution, The Origin of Species, was published.

Since then, evolutionists have developed elaborate theories about man coming from lower animals, especially apes. However, those theories are not going unchallenged.

Fossil Finds & Fossil Faults

In May, a fossil find was announced with great fanfare in New York City and was said to be an early link from monkeys to man

"We are not dealing with our grand, grand, grand, grandmother, but perhaps with our grand, grand, grand aunt," the Senckenberg Research Institute's Dr. Jens Franzen said.

"This skeleton is going to inform almost anything that we talk about in trying to determine the ancestor of higher primates," explained the University of Michigan's Dr. Holly Smith.

Despite this confident mood, critics like Dr. David Dewitt have been finding fault with fossils like these for years.

"The underside of the skulls for the apes, they're very similar," said DeWitt. "And the human skull is different, the odd one out. And you can tell because of the position of the foramen magnum -- in the apes is up and in humans coming from the bottom."

Likewise, scientists eventually debunked that celebrated fossil. But there was no media hoopla. There was merely silence, leaving the public with the impression that man is an ape.

God-like or Ape-like?

In his presentation Image of God or Planet of Apes, DeWitt says the stakes are high.

"Either man is created by God in His image or evolved over millions of years from pond scum through ape-like ancestors," DeWitt said.

PBS recently produced a series of programs promoting that ape-like ancestry for mankind. The NOVA series is entitled "Becoming Human."

"Somehow over time, they would become us," the Nova narrator said. "We know it happened, but we've never known when or why until now."

In the first episode, NOVA discusses the fossil known as Lucy's Child. But DeWitt notes how every new insight from Lucy's Child shows it is like an ape, not man.

The vocal bone, inner ear organ for balance, and curved fingers are like a chimpanzee's. The shoulder blades and heavy neck verterbrae closely resemble a gorilla's and is consistent with knuckle walking. Yet the NOVA program shows the creatures upright, not walking on their knuckles.

By contrast, man's entire skeleton allows him to balance on two legs for running, even with the hindrance of a gorilla suit, after all it is the human race.

Most importantly, the brain capacity of Lucy's Child falls in the range of a chimpanzee's.

Evolution Based More on Belief Than Real Evidence

DeWitt says one weakness for evolution is that it is often based more on belief than real evidence, in spite of the certainty evolutionists usually claim. As more data is considered, widely held Darwinist ideas are shown to be false.

For example, walking on two legs was thought to be how ape brains got pushed into becoming human brains. But now the idea is fading.

The new theory is that the ancient climate was unstable and that pushed the development of bigger brains.

"Africa's gradual drying trend was punctuated by burst of wild climate fluctuations," the NOVA narrator explained. "Then came 200,000 years of widely varying climate - careening unpredictably between wet and dry…"

DeWitt, who is trained in neuroscience, says that makes no sense. He says the great complexity of the human brain cannot arise from weather changes and random mutations.

The evolutionists themselves debunk each other to get their pet theories accepted - while they last.

Even The New York Times found humor in the climate theory in an article published on Nov. 3, 2009.

"Brains got bigger because only smarter beings could survive in such climatic conditions. So there you have it: global warming should have the same effect, which means we'll all be super-geniuses soon."

Hijacked Into a Fossil Family Tree

DeWitt says the climate change theory of human intelligence will eventually be replaced when it becomes obvious that there really wasn't evidence for it in the first place.

In fact, interspersed amid the evolutionary certainty, there are hints of weak evidence. The few skeletal bones that have been found. A depression that could very likely be and animation fills in the gaps.

These ancient creatures must have spent time in the trees, possibly sleeping there at night.

DeWitt says all the power and money of the evolution establishment can create stunning visual presentations, but can't prove that man evolved from lower life forms. They've even robbed the apes of their ancestry

"Toumai was hailed a few years ago as our oldest ancestor," DeWitt explained in his "Image of God" presentation.

"The suggestion was made instead that perhaps this is an ancestor to female gorillas," he said. "And this is very important, because there are virtually no other examples of fossil apes. They've all been hijacked into the human evolutionary tree."

So the next time you hear someone contending that man's basic nature is mere monkey biology, remember there is another side to the issue.

Sarah Palin meets Billy Graham

by Jennifer Riley, Christian Post

Sarah Palin meets Billy Graham

Sarah Palin met evangelist Billy Graham for dinner at his home on Montreat, North Carolina, on Sunday.

The two were joined by Franklin Graham, who had extended the invitation to Palin last winter after the two delivered aid together in Alaska, Anne Graham Lotz, and Palin’s parents, Chuck and Sally Heath, her aunt Katie Johnson, daughter Piper, and son Trig.

During their meeting, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee spoke of her spiritual journey and her life in Alaska. Meanwhile, the famed evangelist, who has counselled countless presidents and politicians, shared his memories of preaching in Anchorage, Alabama, in 1984.

“It was an honour having Governor Palin and her family in our home this evening,” said Billy Graham in a statement. “I, like many people, have been impressed with her strong commitment to her faith, to family and love of country.”

Franklin Graham told The Charlotte Observer that his father has followed Palin’s career and “likes her strong stand on faith”.

“Daddy feels God was using her to wake America up,” Graham said.

Palin also felt privileged to meet Billy Graham, calling it “a once-in-a-lifetime honour”.

The elder Graham signed Bibles for all of Palin’s family members present for the dinner and signed two for her – one small travel-size Bible and a large New King James version, according to the Observer.

They also prayed together.

“Life in the spotlight is not easy and I pray that whatever lies ahead for this family that their faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, would remain strong and that God would put a hedge or protection around her and all those she holds dear,” Graham said.

This was the first time Palin and Billy Graham met.

In February, then Alaska Governor Palin had teamed up with Franklin Graham and the humanitarian group he heads, Samaritan’s Purse, to deliver 44,000 pounds of food to families along the Yukon River who were hit by an unusually harsh winter.

Palin’s stop in Montreat was en route to the next city on her book tour. She is scheduled to stop at Fort Bragg in eastern North Carolina on Monday to promote her memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life.

National Right to Life to Obama and Reid: You Wanted Debate? Now You'll Get Debate - On Government-Funded Abortion

by Staff
November 24, 2009

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- The U.S. Senate barely cleared an initial 60- vote procedural hurdle, setting the stage for a 2,074-page health care bill, crafted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nv.), to move forward to debate before the full Senate. The following statement was issued by the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of right-to-life organizations in all 50 states, and may be attributed to NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson.

As National Right to Life has previously noted, Senator Reid's bill [on page 118] would authorize the federal government to pay for any and all abortions through a huge new federal health insurance program, the "public option," and also to subsidize purchase of private plans that cover abortion on demand. President Obama and Reid know that the substance of these abortion-promoting policies is deeply unpopular, so they seek to conceal the reality with layers of contorted definitions and money- laundering schemes.

Obama and Reid wanted debate - so now they'll get debate, on their cloaked provisions that would cover abortion on demand in proposed new government-run and government-subsidized insurance plans.

Obama and Reid are seeking to block enactment of the bipartisan Stupak-Pitts compromise, adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives on November 7 by a vote of 240-194. This amendment would prevent government funding of elective abortion through the proposed "public option," and would also prevent federal subsidies from paying for private insurance plans that cover elective abortion.

During the weeks ahead, National Right to Life will continue to fight the efforts of President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders to cover abortion on demand in two huge new federal health programs. The Senate bill faces additional 60-vote hurdles in the future. Moreover, a courageous group of pro-life Democrats in the House of Representatives will oppose final approval of health care legislation if the Stupak-Pitts Amendment is gutted or removed.

For extensive further documentation on the Stupak- Pitts Amendment and other aspects of the issue, visit the NRLC website at www.nrlc.org/ahc.

Both NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson and Senior Legislative Counsel Susan T. Muskett are available to provide further comment and analysis on the Stupak-Pitts Amendment and the abortion provisions in the Reid bill. To arrange an interview, contact the NRLC Communications Department at (202) 626-8825 or (202) 423-3329 (mobile).

The National Right to Life Committee, the nation's largest pro-life group, is a federation of affiliates in all 50 states and 3,000 local chapters nationwide. National Right to Life works through legislation and education to protect those threatened by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Muslims attack worship service in Uganda

by Staff

(christiansunite.com) - Approximately 40 Muslims armed with machetes and clubs attacked the World Possessor's Church International in Namasuba, just outside the capital city of Kampala, Uganda, on November 1 while believers were holding a worship service.

When the church members heard the Muslims outside, they gathered at the front door to try to prevent them from entering. Some Christians were able to escape through the church's rear door.

When the Muslims noticed one of the Christians taking photographs of them, they beat him severely. Nearby residents eventually arrived on scene and helped the Christians ward off their attackers. When police arrived, they assisted in stopping the assault but made no arrests.

Local Muslims have long opposed the existence of the church in Namasuba, complaining that church members try to convert Muslims in the area. They have also argued that the church building's outdoor stairway encroaches on the alley and that the church members make too much noise.

Many of the believers are reportedly too fearful to return to church and attendance for the worship service held the following Sunday decreased from 250 to 100 people. "Since the attack we have been receiving a lot of threats from the Muslims," said Pastor Henry Zaake. "There is a conspiracy that we can't understand. This trend really gives me sleepless nights."

Ask God to sustain all the victims of this attack through His peace and grace. Pray that the members of the church will grow in Christlikeness through the ongoing opposition they face (James 1:2-4).

Israel bombs Gaza in response to rocket fire

Tuesday, November 24, 2009 Israel Today Staff

Israel bombs Gaza in response to rocket fire

Israeli warplanes early Tuesday morning struck Hamas arms depots in northern and southern Gaza in response to Palestinian rocket fire on southern Israel a day earlier.

During the early evening hours on Monday, a Palestinian rocket fired from Hamas-ruled Gaza landed between two communities in southern Israel, causing no injuries or damage.

The Israeli response came during hours when the terrorist arms depots were devoid of personnel.

The Israeli army confirmed the aerial strikes later on Tuesday, and insisted that it "will not tolerate attacks from terror organizations on the State of Israel's territory and will continue to operate with a firm hand against any attempt to disrupt the calm in Israel's towns and the south of the country."

ECA Issues Resolution Against Abortion Funding

by Staff
November 19, 2009

MEDIA ADVISORY, (christiansunite.com) -- The board of the Evangelical Church Alliance (ECA), one of America's oldest associations of evangelical clergy, today unanimously passed a resolution urging the United States Congress not to include direct or indirect funding for abortion in any Health Care Reform legislation.

The ECA was formed in 1887 and represents 2451 member clergy leading congregations and religious institutions throughout the U.S. The 10-member board passed the resolution at its regularly scheduled semi- annual meeting held at the organization's headquarters in Bradley, Illinois, south of Chicago.

In a separate action, the ECA board directed the chairman of its Committee on Church and Society, the Reverend Dr. Rob Schenck, to personally deliver hand- signed and notarized copies of the document to the offices of US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Dr. Schenck plans to do so tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18.

The language of the unprecedented resolution is provided below. For comment contact the Reverend Dr. Samuel Goebel, president of the Evangelical Church Alliance, at 815-937-0720. For more information, the ECA website is: www.ecainternational.org.

Resolution Against Abortion Funding

Whereas, God is the giver of life, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul" (Genesis 2:7), and,

Whereas, the Bible is replete with affirmations of this truth, including evidence that Life is present from the moment of human conception, "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13), and,

Whereas, Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), and the Apostles affirmed this by saying, "In Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28), and,

Whereas, the Founders of our country affirmed these things in the Declaration of Independence, "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and,

Whereas, there is a current debate in the United States Congress over Health Care Reform legislation that includes proposals for and against mechanisms to fund the abortion of nascent human life;

THEREFORE, we, the members of the Board of the Evangelical Church Alliance, one of America's oldest continuous associations of evangelical clergy, numbering 2451 ordained and licensed members, leading congregations and institutions throughout America, convened for our semi-annual meeting at Bradley, Illinois, urge the United States Congress, in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, to do nothing by their acts to violate the Sanctity of Human Life as given by the Creator, acknowledged as one of the First inalienable rights by the Founders and secured by the United States Constitution, and,

FURTHERMORE, we urge the members of the United States Congress to give heed to the opinions of the majority of American citizens that abortion should not be funded by tax dollars either directly or indirectly.

Passed this 17th Day of November, in the year of our Lord, 2009, at Bradley, Illinois, in the United States of America, by the following proven in their signatures here,

Dr. George L. Miller, Dr. Samuel S. Goebel, Dr. Rene S. Moreno, Dr. Scott M. Preissler, Rev. Joseph D. Hoskin, Rev. Randy L. Brown, Dr. Elmon R. Krupnik, Rev. Gordon L. Milburn, Dr. Robert L. Schenck, Rev. John William Cordes, and Rev. Robert H. Turrill.

Christians fined and deported in Kazakhstan

by Staff
November 18, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - Two Christians, Viktor Leven and his brother, Didrikh, are facing prosecution for taking part in religious worship without state registration in Akmola Region, Kazakhstan.

On October 14, Viktor, who was born in Kazakhstan but has German citizenship, was found guilty of "carrying out missionary activity without local registration" (Article 375-3 of the Administrative Code), an offense which prescribes a fine and/or deportation to foreigners or people without citizenship.

He was fined a total of 6,480 Tenge (approximately $45 CAD) and ordered to be deported. He has since had his fine and deportation annulled on appeal -- a decision which local Christians see as a result of the court recognizing "that he was not a missionary and had not been sent to Kazakhstan for this...he lives here."

On October 28, Didrikh was found guilty of violating Article 374-1 which forbids "leadership or participation in the activity of an unregistered social or religious organization." He was fined 129,600 Tenge (approximately $900 CAD), which is 100 times the minimum monthly wage. He reportedly plans to lodge an appeal to the same Akmola Regional Court which overturned Viktor's punishment.

Also in Kazakhstan, Feruza Utegenova, a member of New Life Church in Aktau on the Caspian Sea, was deported to Uzbekistan on November 5. She had been convicted and fined in June for "carrying out missionary activity without local registration" (Article 375-3) after she distributed a Christian children's magazine to a 12-year-old girl living near her home.

Israel: Obama criticism of Jerusalem construction is racist

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Wednesday called US President Barack Obama's strong criticism of the building of additional Jewish homes in a Jewish neighborhood of the Israeli capital a position based on racism.

Said Barkat:

"Israeli law does not discriminate between Jews, Muslims, and Christians or between eastern and western Jerusalem. The demand to halt construction by religion is not legal in the United States or in any other free place in the world. I do not presume that any government would demand to freeze construction in the United States based on race, religion or gender and the attempt to demand it from Jerusalem is a double standard and inconceivable."

The Jerusalem mayor was responding to Obama's remarks to Fox News earlier in the day, in which the president referred to the approval of 900 new apartments in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo as "settlement activity," and suggested that it justified further Palestinian violence.

Many Israeli lawmakers publicly agreed with Barkat, including opposition leader Tzipi Livni, who told visiting French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner that "Gilo is part of the Israeli consensus, and that understanding is important for every discussion on the final borders of any future agreement."

Kouchner took a lighter view of the issue than Obama, and told reporters that he didn't feel the construction of additional Jewish apartments in a neighborhood where so many Jews already live should in any way hinder the peace process.

But the Palestinians took their cue from Obama. Chief Palestinian Authority negotiator Saeb Erekat was quick to confirm that the Palestinians, too, view the Jewish presence in Gilo as settlement activity, and do not feel they can make peace with Israel so long as it continues.

Built in 1971, Gilo was a barren hilltop when it was liberated by Israel from illegal Jordanian occupation in the 1967 Six Day War. Today it is home to more than 30,000 Israelis, and an integral part of Jerusalem.

USAID helping facilitate Palestinian terrorism

Billions of dollars of US taxpayers' money have been used to advance the cause of Palestinian terror groups against Israel by raising a new generation of young Arabs ready to be recruited for "martyrdom."

In an interview with Arutz 7 Radio, journalist David Bedein said his recent investigations had revealed that Palestinian school textbooks continue to praise the use of terrorist violence against Jews and to deny the legitimacy of the State of Israel.

Those textbooks and the schoolhouses where they are used have been largely paid for by USAID, an American government-funded international aid program that has pumped $2.4 billion into the Palestinian Authority over the past decade.

According to USAID, those funds have been used to "reduce poverty, improve health and education, create jobs and advance democracy." But a USAID official admitted to Bedein that his agency does not check the PA school curriculum it is funding to make sure it complies with the terms of the US-backed peace process.

Incitement to hatred and the encouragement of violence in school textbooks is a violation of Israel's existing agreements with the Palestinians and the US-authored "Road Map" to peace.

Several high-ranking US congressional leaders as well as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have chided the Palestinians in the past over the venomous textbooks, but have thus far failed to take any punitive action, or to at least reduce pressure on Israel until the Palestinians comply with their peace commitments.

USAID says it plans to invest another $153 million in US taxpayers' money into the Palestinian education system in 2010.

Israel: Palestinians wouldn't last a day without us

Senior Israeli officials on Monday told The Jerusalem Post that Palestinian threats to unilaterally declare independence are a bluff, since the Palestinians know full well they couldn't last a day without Israeli support.

One Israeli army official said that the Palestinian Authority had made some progress in its management of civilian affair, but pointed to its inability to adequately manage and allocate water resources as an example of why it couldn't possibly go independent.

"The Palestinian Water Authority wouldn't last a day on its own," the source said. "We allocated them a piece of land on the coast to build a desalination plant and they have decided not to build it."

Another official noted that any time Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas moved outside Ramallah, Israeli security agencies had to ensure his safety since he can't trust enough of his own people.

"When Abbas travels it is like a military operation. Everyone is involved since the PA forces cannot yet completely ensure his security."

The Palestinian Authority's inability to stand on its own two feet has been pointed out by some as the major folly of the Middle East peace process, which would essentially create a welfare state indefinitely dependent on major handouts from the international community and infrastructure maintenance by Israel.

Iranian pastor jailed for protesting Islamic teaching of children

by Staff
November 16, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - The Voice of the Martyrs recently learned of the arrest of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani in Guilan, Iran on October 12 after he protested against the decision of local authorities to impose the reading of the Koran on Christian children.

This requirement, Pastor Nadarkhani insisted, violates the Declaration of Universal Human Rights (which Iran has signed) that states: "Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children" (Article 26).

Authorities told the pastor that he went too far with this protest. "Not happy with the fact that we tolerate you, you pushed too far your boldness by refusing that your children follow Koranic courses." At last report, Pastor Nadarkhani remained in detention.

Josh McDowell challenges Palin and Oprah to discuss abortion, morality

Best-selling author Josh McDowell has released insightful tidbits on abortion and morality for former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as she prepares for her highly anticipated interview with Oprah on November 16.

Last month McDowell and co-author Dave Sterrett of Probe Ministries released the new book O God: A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality that chronicles two women who grapple with belief systems endorsed by Oprah and her spiritual teachers.

"Does Oprah believe in shrinking the role of religion in America, given the Obama administration's views on separation of church and state?" is among a variety of questions and advice McDowell and Sterrett propose that Palin take up with Oprah. The open letter was released Sunday on WorldNetDaily.

Oprah, who openly supported an Obama presidency over the Republican presidential team of McCain/Palin, has billed the interview as an opportunity to discuss Palin's forth-coming book, Going Rogue: An American Life, which has already skyrocketed to No 1 on Amazon weeks before its release. But McDowell hopes the two women will also cover big issues.

"Although, I'm not sure exactly what will be included in the interview, I hope that Sarah will continue to take the stand that the basis of morality is the nature and character of God, the Creator, that human life begins at conception and that every person is created in the image of God," wrote McDowell.

McDowell and Sterrett, who admit they respect Oprah's tireless work on behalf of children around the world, say they disagree with her ideas about moral relativism.

"I hope that Sarah, like Martin Luther King Jr, will share that morality is ultimately dependent on God - rather than individuals or cultures," McDowell continued. "Martin Luther King Jr once said, 'Some things in this universe are absolute. The God of the universe has made it so. And so long as we adopt a relative attitude toward right and wrong, we're revolting against the very laws of God himself.'"

"Regardless of individual thoughts on Sarah Palin or Oprah Winfrey, there is very little doubt that this interview is anticipated to receive very high rankings and will capture the attention of many Americans," McDowell said.

Josh McDowell has authored or co-authored 118 books, including More Than a Carpenter, which has sold 15 million copies in 85 languages. His book, New Evidence That Demands a Verdict, was named one of the 20th century's top 40 books and one of the 13 most influential books of the last 50 years on Christian thought by World magazine.

'Fireproof' makers to follow up with film on fatherhood

Sherwood Church, home of the hit independent Christian movies Flywheel, Facing the Giants, and Fireproof, has announced its next movie is to focus on fatherhood.

“The movie is about fatherhood and the title is one word: Courageous,” said Alex Kendrick, who is on the leadership team of Sherwood Pictures.

“Four fathers who are all in law enforcement — who protect and serve together — go through a terrible tragedy,” he said. “They begin looking at their role as fathers ... and they begin challenging one another to fulfil God’s intention for fathers."

The announcement was made that the church's Sunday evening service by Kendrick and other members of the Sherwood Pictures leadership team, Senior Pastor Michael Catt, Executive Pastor Jim McBride, and minister Stephen Kendrick.

That single-word title, Pastor Catt said, echoes God’s call for men to “rise with courage” in their homes and as leaders at a time when four out of 10 marriages in the US are ending in divorce and more than a third of children are living away from their biological fathers.

“The statistics on fatherless children are devastating,” McBride said. “And because the family is the building block of society, one important place to rebuild families is through fathers who stay and lead and love."

“God led us,” co-writer and producer Stephen Kendrick said to the audience of church members, many of them volunteer crew, cast, or catering in earlier Sherwood movies. “We believe God is calling men to rise up with strength and with leadership in their homes, with their families and with their children."

"For more then a year we’ve prayed to be sure that we’re pursuing God’s idea and not our own,” Pastor Catt said. “With action, drama, and humour, this film will embrace God’s promise in the Bible to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers."

Alex Kendrick, co-writer/director of Courageous, said: “We focus on the crucial role of father; it’s not just to be a father who loves his kids. It’s to be engaged with a purpose - to be a father on purpose."

All four leaders of Sherwood Pictures are husbands and fathers. Pastor Catt has two children; Pastor McBride has four; Stephen Kendrick has four; and Alex Kendrick has six.

Sherwood movies aim to entertain as they touch audiences where they live, and they show the means to live more fully through faith in God. Flywheel focused on compromise and business integrity; Facing the Giants on despair and hope; Fireproof on a dying marriage rekindled.

With previous Sherwood movies, fans, churches, and organisations around the world became “partners” in the movie’s impact - giving prayer support for production, distribution, and the movies’ messages. Ministries and outreaches used the films in creative ways. Churches built series and group studies on the topics; Sunday schools seized the momentum of good entertainment that emphasizes life-changing truths.

“It’s been the Bible’s story of Jesus multiplying the boy’s fish and loaves,” Alex Kendrick said. “God has multiplied these movies beyond our wildest dreams."

Principle filming of Courageous begins March 2010 in Albany. Like the previous three Sherwood films, Courageous will be marketed by Provident Films.

Sherwood Pictures is a ministry of Sherwood Church of Albany, Georgia, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Michael Catt and Executive Pastor Jim McBride.

Israel will not take kindly to Palestinian declaration of independence

Israeli leaders on Monday reiterated that a threatened unilateral Palestinian declaration of independence would be a mistake that would have long-lasting negative consequences for Palestinian aspirations of statehood.

Speaking before the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said a Palestinian declaration of independence would be doomed to failure since it would violate and thereby nullify the Palestinians' agreement with Israel, freeing the Jewish state to reassert sovereignty over all the territories in question.

A day ealier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that is precisely what would happen, warning that a unilateral Palestinian declaration would result in even more severe unilateral steps by Israel.

Lieberman also insisted that the UN Security Council was unlikely to give its backing to a Palestinian state formed outside the framework of an agreement with Israel.

But chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told a Palestinian newspaper at the weekend that he had received "positive responses" to feelers put out at the UN. Erekat said that Palestinian representatives had won tacit approval for such a move from many Security Council members, even possibly the US.

The Palestinians claim that Israel is destroying the peace process and that there is little hope of a bilateral two-state agreement at this point, despite repeated attempts by Netanyahu to get Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas back to the negotiating table.

China is an economic superpower with the world's fastest growing economy and boasts the world's largest population.

Yet, as China's influence increases, so does international concern about the country's affairs.

China is still a Communist country and the government has little tolerance for those who worship outside official churches.

But what pressure, if any, should the U.S. put on China to guarantee religious freedom?

President Obama will meet with leaders in China next week with the goal of solidifying U.S relations with the country.

Topping the White House agenda for discussion is the global economy, trade, climate change and regional and global security issues-- including terrorism, Iran and North Korea.

Just before Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited China earlier this year, she said human rights would not be a top priority of the Obama administration.

The U.S. still lists China as a country of particular concern for religious freedom.

china aid association president bob fu gives one reason why....

"The government wants to exercise total control of the church and order the church not to exercise their faith, especially to practice their faith by sharing the gospel wherever they are," said Bob Fu of the China Aid Association.

When the State Department released it's annual religious freedom survey last month, Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner said religious freedom will be part of the U.S.-China dialogue for a long time to come.

He expressed concern for the 50- 90-million Christians who worship in China's unregistered churches.

"What we are trying to do is encourage the Chinese government to recognize and allow people of faith, various faiths, to practice and that's also part of the dialogue as far as I'm concerned," Posner said.

The president may raise human rights and religious freedom issues privately. Also, unlike his predecessor, Obama is not planning to attend a church during his China visit.

Israel dedicates monument to 9/11 victims

Israel on Thursday dedicated an impressive monument to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

At nearly 30-feet tall, the huge sculpture and the expansive courtyard in which is it placed form a very visible commemoration of that dreadful day. The sculpture itself, designed by artist Eliezer Weishoff, is of a waving American flag that transforms into a memorial flame.

The base of the sculpture is actually a piece of the ruins of the World Trade Center, donated toward the Jerusalem memorial by the New York City Municipality.

While the Jerusalem memorial is by no means the first 9/11 memorial set up in Israel, it is one of the only memorials outside the US that includes the names of all 2,980 victims of the attacks.

Update: Imprisoned believers tortured following Islamic attack in Pakistan

by Staff
November 11, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - Two Christians who were arrested by officials following an Islamic attack on believers in Gojra, Pakistan have faced brutal torture and abuse from authorities.

Naveed Masih (32) and his brother, Nauman Masih (25), were arrested in early September for "rioting with deadly weapons and spreading terror with firing." Naveed has been accused of firing shots into the air and at the feet of Muslims in an attempt to disperse them during the August 1 violence.

However, both brothers deny using weapons and believe they have been targeted because they provided shelter to over 300 women, children and seniors on the day of the attack.

The brothers were kept in detention illegally for 18 days at the Police Training Centre in Choong. During that time, police officers attempted to coerce the brothers into saying they fired the shots and had ties to terrorist organizations by denying them food and drink, beating them, hanging them upside down and preventing them from sleeping. Nauman has since been released on bail.

Obama-Netanyahu meeting shrouded in secrecy

First, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to jump through hoops just to get a meeting with US President Barack Obama. When they did meet on Monday, the contents of their talks were either so negative or so classified that a near-total media blackout was placed on the gathering.

Netanyahu left Israel for Washington on Sunday to attend and address the 2009 General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America. Weeks earlier, he had requested to meet with Obama during the visit, a typical occurrence any time an Israeli leader travels to the US. But this time, the Obama White House made Netanyahu sweat it out till the last minute before, as media reports put it, "grudgingly" scheduling a meeting.

The White House's apparent reluctance to invite Netanyahu was an indication to most Israelis that relations remain tense between the Obama Administration and Jerusalem.

Then things got really curious when the White House totally broke protocol by barring the media from the meeting. Following the two-hour get-together, Netanyahu left the White House immediately without speaking to reporters, and promptly cancelled a press conference that had been scheduled for Tuesday. Instead, he hopped on a plane for Europe.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who attended part of the Obama-Netanyahu meeting, also cancelled several radio interviews scheduled for Tuesday.

Speculation was rife in Israel that the unusual secrecy surrounding the meeting could either mean that Obama tried to strong-arm the Israelis to surrender to Palestinian demands and was firmly repulsed, or that the meeting focused on an impending Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

In remarks to Israel's Ynet news portal, attorney Dov Weisglass, who served as bureau chief to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, added a third option - that Netanyahu had agreed to far-reaching concessions to the Palestinians and wanted to keep the details under wraps for now to avoid a political storm at home.

PHOTOS: Captured ship had huge number of arms for Hizballah

Israel commandos on Tuesday night stormed and commandeered a German-owned cargo ship off the coast of Cyprus after learning that it was carrying weapons to the Hizballah terrorist militia in Lebanon.

It is unknown if the Israelis were prepared for the sheer number of weapons aboard the ship, which military officials said ended up being hundreds of tons worth of mortar shells, anti-tank missiles, Katyusha missiles and other heavy weaponry.

Hizballah later denied any connection to the ship and accused Israel of piracy for taking over the vessel in international waters. The shipping company claimed it had no idea the huge arms cache was hidden among the civilian cargo it was carrying.

Americans Protest the Obama-Pelosi-Carhart Abortion Funding Scheme

by Staff
November 4, 2009

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Americans gathered outside the White House on Saturday and laid down in the street to form the number 71, representing the percentage of Americans who oppose taxpayer funded abortions in our nation's health care plan.

The group was part of the IAM71.org coalition, which has a multi-faceted campaign against tax-funding of abortions that includes a ground-breaking virtual protest that can be found at www.IAM71.org. The protest was led by coalition member Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition.

The protest came on the heels Speaker Nancy Pelosi's unveiling of the House version of the health care "reform" bill that specifically provides for the tax funding of abortions. Present at the Pelosi invitation-only rally was late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, whose failing abortion business in Bellevue, Nebraska, would stand to handsomely profit from the Pelosi scheme to force taxpayers to foot the bill for abortions. This was particularly disturbing since Carhart is currently under criminal investigation in Nebraska for illegal abortion practices after his former employees blew the whistle on him in August.

"The Obama-Pelosi-Carhart scheme would lead to more abortions and would cost the taxpayers millions of dollars that we don't have. It is a morally bankrupt plan that could contribute to fiscally bankrupting our nation," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who helped found the "I AM 71" Coalition.

Speaking to the American people, Newman said, "Even if you have already done so, we urge Americans of conscience to contact your Representatives and Senators today to voice your opposition to tax funded abortions in our health care system. Then go to IAM71.org and upload your photo to add your voice to the growing number of Americans speaking out against this injustice."

Operation Rescue is one of the leading pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation and has become a strong voice for the pro-life movement in America. Operation Rescue is now headquartered in a former abortion clinic that it bought and closed in 2006. From there, Operation Rescue launches its innovative new strategies across the nation, exposing and closing abortion clinics through peaceful, legal means. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to stop abortion and ultimately restore legal personhood to the pre- born in obedience to biblical mandates.

US generals and soldiers flood Israel

A large number of American generals and at least 1,500 US soldiers arrived in Israel this week for one of the largest joint land exercises ever held between the two nations.

Dubbed "Juniper Cobra," the exercise, which is held every year, but never before on such a large scale, is scheduled to last three weeks.

One of the visiting US generals told Israel media that the exercise is in response to "specific threats," which every took to mean primarily the Iranian nuclear threat. There was much speculation that the exercise signaled the US had nearly given up on diplomatic efforts to curb Iran's nuclear program, and was gearing up for the aftermath of an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Obama appoints anti-Israel senator to head intel team

Israelis were given yet another reason to view US President Barack Obama with suspicion last week when he appointed former senator Chuck Hagel as the new head of his Intelligence Advisory Board.

Hagel has long rubbed Israel and its supporters the wrong way, and last month he reiterated his antagonistic positions when addressing the liberal Jewish lobby group J-Street. Hagel told his audience that meeting Arab demands for a Palestinian state on ancient Jewish lands is "is central, not peripheral, to U.S. vital security interests in combating terrorism."

Israel has for years been trying to impress upon Washington to not play into the terrorists hands by allowing them to define Israel's existence as justification for their actions.

Hagel also said that while the US may have a special relationship with Israel, the Middle East's only true democracy, it "must not come at the expense of our Arab relationships."

Hagel's remarks came as no surprise to those who followed his actions as a senator in recent years.

Hagel strongly criticized former President George W. Bush during his first term for refusing to meet with Yasser Arafat, while at the same time questioning the loyalty of American Jews who pushed for the US to back Israel against its enemies.

Later, Hagel refused to join an effort to convince the European Union to declare Hizballah a terrorist organization, and was one of only four senators to not sign a declaration backing Israel at the outset of the second Palestinian intifada, better known as the "Oslo War."

Israel observers are concerned that the same man will now play such a central role in shaping intelligence information before it reaches Obama, and thereby exercise tremendous influence over the president's foreign policy decisions.

Ten more Christians from China's Fushan Church arrested

by Staff
October 29, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - Church members of the Fushan Church in Linfen City, China continue to face detention and intimidation from Public Security Bureau officials.

On October 10, officials offered to release ten church leaders who were arrested in late September following an attack on their church site, on the condition that one of the female leaders be held until further notice. The leaders refused to leave behind Pastor Yang Rongli, stating, "We are one team in the one body of Christ! We won't leave her behind alone. We will not leave prison without her."

The officials then arrested Pastor Yang's youngest sister, Yang Linli, and ransacked another pastor's home. On October 11, ten more church members were arrested. Officials blamed Pastor Yang for the raids and arrests, and threatened the leaders with further violence if they did not comply with their orders.

Yang Linli was finally released on October 16 and ordered to not petition on behalf of her sister or the other detained Christians and cease further "illegal activities." Pastor Yang and another church leader, Hua Mei, were then formally accused of "illegal building and disturbing the social order by organizing masses."

The next day, five other church leaders were sentenced to criminal detention. Three have since been released on parole. At last report, nine Christians remain in detention and the whereabouts of the ten Christians detained on October 11 remain unknown.

Bewitched No More!

By Missey Butler
Guest Writer

CBN.com -- The month of October is a time when we begin to see and hear the all too familiar haunts of Halloween.

The lovely canopy of autumn begins to tarnish with shadows of a bewitching influence that permeates, as it twists and twines its way around us.

The meaning of the word, “bewitched” is: To attract; to cause to be enamored, as in the casting of a spell over someone or something.

Back in the days of the early church, they too struggled with a notorious “bewitching” problem, one that the Apostle Paul felt the need to address.

We find his rather strong admonishment in the book of Galatians, when he said:

“You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? (3:1)"

He of course was referring to the whole “law versus grace” problem. Paul was trying to stress that just as they (the Galatians) had started their Christian walk in the power of the Spirit, so they should be careful to continue to grow by that same grace and power of the Spirit. A subtle shift had gradually started to make its way into the Church. Apparently some of the believers had begun to fall back into “trying” (within their own strength) to keep the Jewish laws.

It is of utmost importance for all of us to remember that we only grow in proportion to God’s work of grace in us by the power of the Spirit.

The Scripture reminds us that it is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord. It is never about following a specific set of rules or attempting to stay justified by mere “mortal” efforts. Those sneaky little “good intentions” that come in the form of: “I’ll do better next time” or, “I’ll never do that again” or, “Maybe if I just pray more, commit more” dialog like that always causes us to end up in utter failure and defeat.
Why? Because we simply cannot keep the Law!

I am convinced that the Holy Spirit’s greatest work in all of us is in teaching us that we can safely trust in the completed atoning work of the cross! We are to fully comprehend the marvelous redemption for our sins, when Jesus breathed those fateful words, “It is Finished.”

What was finished? All human effort! When Christ died upon the cross, we died there with Him! That is to say, all of our humanity died there with Him. And when He ascended into heaven, we ascended with Him! We have been raised to newness of life by our union with Him!

1 Corinthians 6:17 says, "He that is joined to the Lord is one Spirit." Hallelujah! It is no longer we who are walking, but Christ Himself, expressed as you and me.

"I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me ( Galations 2:20, Amp)."

We are simply emptied containers, manifesting the anointed risen Christ for all to see. As we daily walk out this victorious truth, we do it in the face of glaring weaknesses, vulnerabilities and thousands of failures. That’s okay because the more we walk it out by faith, the more we are transformed into His image.

"We know that we have been raised to newness of life by the incorruptible seed of Christ. That we have been set free from all self effort! (No matter what it may look like outwardly!) We have no need to prove anything! Even when we do things we don’t want to do, it is simply another trial of our faith that we can give thanks for and quickly remind ourselves, it is no longer “I” who lives, but Christ living in me (Galatians 2:20)."

As we continue to grow in our understanding, daily stirring up the gift of faith, we more and more realize that we can most assuredly of our own selves do nothing (John 5:30). The challenge before us, than beautifully crystallizes into the simple truth that, "For me to live… is Christ (Philippians 1:21)."

Church bombed in Ukraine

by Staff
October 28, 2009

(christiansunite.com) - In the early morning of October 14, a crude homemade bomb was thrown into the Calvary Chapel church building in Kaharlyk, Ukraine.

The building is also the residence of Pastor Wayne Zschech and his family. At approximately 7:00 a.m., Pastor Zschech's wife awoke to the smell of smoke. Fire officials were called to the scene where they put out the blaze, which caused minor damage to the building.

The six people asleep in the church at the time of the attack escaped without injury. The assailants spray painted "Out with Sects" and "OYH," an abbreviated name for a Ukrainian Nationalist movement, on the church wall.

Pastor Zschech later stated, "We pray that the Lord would call people to salvation and that He would build up His body. We rejoice in being chosen worthy to suffer for the sake of our Lord and His Gospel. We do also pray for safety but hold this prayer out with open hands." For more details on this story, visit Pastor Zschech's blog at www.wayne.calvarychapelkaharlyk.org.

Thank God that no one was hurt in this attack. Pray that the perpetrators of this attack will be brought to justice and come to faith in Christ.

Israel: Hizballah rearmed in southern Lebanon, despite UN force

A top Israeli army official on Wednesday told The Jerusalem Post that Hizballah has managed to set up an arms cache in just about every village in southern Lebanon, despite the presence of more than 10,000 UN peacekeepers tasked with preventing the group's rearmament.

The official said that while the UN force has done an adequate job of not allowing Hizballah to operate in the open, the peacekeepers have demonstrated that they dare not enter local villages, where they are viewed and treated with hostility. As a result, Hizballah has been free to set up bases in nearly every small town and village, putting its weapons well within range of Israel.

That assessment came just a day after a missile fired from southern Lebanon hit the outskirts of the northern Israel town of Kiryat Shemonah. Four more missiles were found at the launch site, located in a small Lebanese village just miles from the Israeli border.

'US better act before Israel attacks Iran'

US congressional leader Dan Burton (R-IN) told the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday that if the US does not get serious about stopping the Iranian nuclear program, it is going to have to deal with a Middle East in flames as the result of a preemptive Israeli strike on the Islamic Republic.

Burton noted that after years of international diplomatic efforts, Iran is still enriching uranium with the expected intention of building a nuclear weapon. This, warned Burton, Israel cannot and will not allow to continue past a certain point.

If Washington does not want the much larger task of calming a Middle East embroiled in war, it should get more serious about the comparatively smaller task of strong-arming the Iranian regime into giving up its nuclear quest, Burton implied.

The congressman's warning echoed that of French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Monday, when he told London's Daily Telegraph that Israel "will not tolerate an Iranian bomb," and will eventually attack Iranian nuclear facilities if the international community fails to come up with another solution.

Expert: UN resolutions would create 'global blasphemy law'

The so-called “defamation of religions” UN resolutions would create a “global blasphemy law”, the chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom warned on Wednesday.

USCIRF Chair Leonard A Leo testified to Members of Congress on the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission that although the resolutions proposed by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference sounded “tolerant and progressive”, they would in reality "exacerbate” religious persecution and discrimination around the world.

“Although the ‘defamation’ resolutions purport to protect religions generally, the only religion and religious adherents that are specifically mentioned are Islam and Muslims,” pointed out Leo, who noted USCIRF has been closely monitoring the resolutions for several years.

“Aside from Islam, the resolutions do not specify which religions are deserving of protection, or explain how or by whom this would be determined.”

Out of concern that the resolutions would be abused to oppress religious minorities in Muslim-majority countries, Christian as well as secular human rights groups launched several campaigns this year alerting UN members to the potential danger of such proposals.

Open Doors, a ministry that works with persecuted Christians, launched an advocacy campaign earlier this month aimed at preventing the resolutions from passing at the United Nations. The ministry is lobbying key countries that will vote on the resolutions and organising a petition drive against the proposal.

And back in March, more than 180 non-government organisations from around the world signed a petition urging the UN Human Rights Council not to adopt the resolutions. Despite their efforts, however, the resolutions passed. The NGOs participating in the petition voiced concern that the resolutions would be manipulated to justify anti-blasphemy laws and intimidate human rights activists and religious dissenters.

Since 1999, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference has annually sponsored the "defamation of religions" resolutions in the UN Human Rights Council, its predecessor, and, since 2005, in the General Assembly.

The resolutions are currently non-binding, but OIC has publicly stated that its goal is for the UN to adopt a binding international covenant against the “defamation of religions”.

Mr Leo denounced the resolutions as a “poorly veiled attempt to export the repressive blasphemy laws found in some OIC countries to the international level”.

“Under these laws, criminal charges can be levied against individuals for defaming, denigrating, insulting, offending, disparaging, and blaspheming Islam, often resulting in gross human rights violations,” said the religious freedom expert.

USCIRF is among the many groups that have spoken against the resolutions. Other groups include The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, Freedom House, UN Watch, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, and Open Doors USA.

The “defamation of religions” resolutions are expected to be formally proposed for renewal by OIC next month or later this year.

ObamaCare = Coerced Abortions-Health care bill that funds abortion and rations care will lead to women being coerced into abortions

by Staff
October 22, 2009

WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- Today Concerned Women for America will join in a press conference on health care with numerous groups including Focus on the Family Action, National Right to Life, and Family Research Council as well as Representatives Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina,) Tom Price (R-Georgia) and Eric Cantor (R-Virginia.) The press conference will be held in the House Triangle.

"Women are generally the primary decision-makers in the family when it comes to health care. However, our ability to make health care decisions will be snatched away and given to bureaucrats empowered to ration care and pay for abortion," stated Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America.

"The current bill sets up a system whereby bureaucrats decide what health care we can receive, with cost as a major factor. It also will fund abortion. Since abortion costs less than prenatal care, delivery and post-natal care, especially if the mother or child has special needs, it is not unlikely that bureaucrats will put on their green-eye shades and decide that abortion will be covered but expensive maternal and child care is not.

"Amendments to ensure access to health benefits regardless of age, expected length of life or disability were defeated along party lines. This means that the most vulnerable -- unborn and premature babies, and those with special needs -- will be discriminated against if this bill passes.

"This bill gives czar-like power to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who has a history of siding with abortionists over women. President Obama's appointees who have little regard for the value of life are far less qualified than mothers to make health decisions for our families."

Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.

Suffer Not the Trick-or-Treaters

By Lori D'Augostine
CBN.com Associate Producer

CBN.com -- How can you resist? How could anyone refuse adorable little children all dressed up, longing for sweets? I could, and I did for years.

Truth be told, I was one of those irresistible children dressed up in a bunny costume, ringing your doorbell, and singing my "Trick or Treat" song. Yet I was hiding behind a mask, and you couldn't see the "real me." If you had, you may have noticed that what I really needed was more than just your candy.

Though I didn't grow up in a Christian household, my parents were very concerned with protecting me from harmful influences -- whether it be the cartoons I watched or the video games I played. They had no idea that their daughter was falling prey to a much more dangerous world that went beyond the physical, parental-controlled television set.

My interest in the spiritual realm began very innocently in elementary school. My girlfriends and I would play games such as "light as a feather, stiff as a board" at our birthday parties. It seemed like harmless fun, until my best friend was lifted into thin air by what seemed like more than just the two fingers that I placed beneath her.

By fifth grade, I was fascinated with Friday the 13th and was convinced that "Jason" was peering through my windows at night. Now I realize that most children believe that there are monsters underneath their beds, but my fixation didn't go away.

In middle school, I met some friends who introduced me to another world. They told me that they could contact the dead and learn hidden secrets about their lives. I'll never forget the time I asked the ouija board who I would marry. It replied, "the Devil." That's when I knew that I was in a very dangerous place.

Sadly, the demonic hauntings I experienced growing up are common among many young children today. I would venture to say that 20 years later, it has gotten much worse. The lures of the Enemy are running more rampant. Children do not have to sneak over to their friends' houses to access demonic influences. There are online ouija boards that require only a mouse, as well as thousands of Web sites that specifically recruit young people to join the occult.

Occultic-oriented rock performers have flourished in this generation. Some rockers even try to persuade teenage listeners to kill themselves and their parents. The influence of the occult has been behind some of the most horrific school shootings of this past decade.

Seventeen-year-old Luke Woodham killed two students and wounded seven others in his Mississippi school after he became involved in Satanism, which he said bestowed "power over many things."

This is the state of some of the American children who are showing up at your doorstep on October 31st. I'm not saying that each of them are secret agents of the occult, yet it is important to consider the souls of the children behind the masks.

In Matthew 19:14 (NIV) Jesus instructed:

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Did you ever wonder why Halloween seems to primarily feed off of a market of 3-13 year olds? This is a Satanic ploy for our children. I don't think that Christian children should completely abstain from the festivities of costumes and candy, because they can be a light through their alternative behavior. [I personally plan on dressing my children up in Biblical and God-honoring characters that will draw people to ask questions.]

I'm talking to those of you who will be opening up your door to children of whom you do not know the state of their soul. Consider the gift that you offer them at your doorstep.

Matthew 7:11 (NIV) says:

"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!"

Consider your options. There are many message-driven alternatives to offer, other than a bowl full of candy. For instance, there are Gospel tracts designed for trick-or-treaters that can be purchased online or at your Christian bookstore. You might also want to consider designing your own tracts or attaching scripture messages to the treats.

Scripture Candy, the makers of Fish Mints™ contain wrappers that have scriptural text. Also, EvangeCandy, "the only candy with color-coded Gospels on every wrapper" are fun for children.

This Halloween, spiritually invest in your neighborhood children and don't make the mistake that I have made of ignoring the doorbell. Please do not shut yourself off to this generation. You have a unique opportunity to invest in the Kingdom of God without even leaving your home. Suffer not these little children and consider how you can protect them from the hauntings of the Enemy.

Israel rebuffs Obama demand to surrender before negotiations

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a demand by US President Barack Obama that he commit to a major expulsion of Jews from their homes in Judea and Samaria prior to a renewal of peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.

According to Israeli media reports on Wednesday, Obama wanted to organize a major peace summit one month from now based on such an Israeli commitment. Even before the sides had a chance to sit down at the negotiating table, Israel was to surrender to all Arab demands to allow the creation of a Palestinian Arab state on every inch of land they claim.

A report in an Arabic-language newspaper indicated that the Palestinian Authority had informed Obama the peace process would not move forward until Israel was strong-armed into accepting those conditions.

At the same time, visiting US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice told Netanyahu that the White House expects more than just "lip service" from Israel regarding restarting the peace process.

Netanyahu has repeatedly stated his willingness to immediately restart talks with the Palestinians. He has issued only one precondition of his own, that the Palestinians finally honor their previous.

Israeli planes strike Gaza in response to rocket attacks

Israeli warplanes attacked terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip late Wednesday night in response to recent rocket attacks carried out against southern Israel.

The Israeli strikes focused on an arms manufacturing plant and arms smuggling tunnels running under the Gaza-Egypt border.

The brief aerial assault came just hours after Palestinian terrorists operating out of Gaza fired a rocket into southern Israel. The rocket landed near an agricultural area, and did not cause any damage or injuries.

Gaza-based terrorists have fired 55 rockets and mortar shells into southern Israel over the past three months.

Herod’s Quarry

Quarry that supplied stones for Herod's renovations of the Second Temple found at a time when Moslem authorities are trying to destroy any proof of the existence of the Israelite temples.

By Netanel Doron

Israeli archaeologists believe they have found the quarry that provided the biblical King Herod with the huge stone blocks used to renovate the Second Temple compound. It was discovered in Ramat Shlomo, a relatively new suburb of Jerusalem about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) north of the Old City.

The municipality planned to build a school at the site, but archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) went in first to make sure that construction did not harm artifacts that could be buried there. In the wake of the find, Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski halted construction of the school and provided $90,000 for continuing the excavations.

The quarry covers an area of some 5,000 square meters (54,000 square feet) and consists of massive stone blocks from 9 to 24 feet (3 to 8 meters) long. This is the same size as the stones seen today on the foundations of the Temple Mount and parts of the Western Wall. The 20-ton stones were hewn out of bedrock.

Rabbi Haim Richman of the Temple Institute in Jerusalem sees this as a confirmation of the presence of God, saying the quarry was found at a time when Moslem authorities are trying to destroy any proof of the existence of two ancient Temples on the Temple Mount.

“God is sending a kiss to the Jewish people, as if He wants to say: ‘Do not fear, I did not forget you. There are those who want to give the Temple Mount away, and there are those who want to take it away from you, but I have great plans for you and the holy Temple. The Temple will be the center of the world again,’” Rabbi Richman said.

IAA archaeologist Yuval Baruch said the stone blocks were cut in steps: First, deep and narrow crevices were hewn around the projected piece of stone. Then dozens of iron stakes were driven into the bottom side of the stone block, a few inches apart, until the stone could be broken out of the bedrock. Archaeologists found one of these iron stakes, about 6 inches (15 cm.) in length, which was lodged in the stone for the past 2,000 years.

Members of the upper class at that time used this white limestone, called malcha (royal), for public buildings and palaces. But while many quarries have been found in and around Jerusalem, stones with these gigantic measurements could not have been hewn from them.

“This is the rst time stones which were used to build the Temple Mount walls were found,” Baruch said.

The quarry sits on Mount Shuafat, about 240 feet (75 meters) higher than the Temple Mount. A road was built next to it and oxen in pairs pulled the giant stones downhill to the temple area.

Archaeologists also found coins and pottery shards dating back to the time of Herod, who was the Jewish proxy ruler of the Holy Land under Roman occupation from 37 BC until his death around 4 BC. Known as the master builder, his most famous construction project was the renovation of the Second Temple, replacing a smaller structure built after the destruction of the First Temple by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.

The Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.

Archaeologist Ehud Nesher said the quarry was a massive public project worked by hundreds of slaves. “This is the work of Herod,” he said. “This is a sign of him.”
